‘Voices and Silences. Pamplona, 7th of July 2008

What we want to do?
This theatre piece is a site-specific parade that travels through the Running of the Bulls’ Route in Pamplona.  The Running of the Bulls, part of the famous San Fermin Festivities, ends with bull fighting and death.  This piece parallels the murder of the bulls with the murder of Nagore Laffage Casasola during the San Fermin Festivities in 2008 by José Diego Yllanes. The relationship between site and Nagore’s story are interwoven, creating symmetries and metaphors - providing a new point of view to this historic route.  This piece addresses gender violence with the primary concept and intention being to give back Nagore’s voice and word - the voice José Diego Yllanes tried to silent.
Who we are?
This Project began in 2010 as an original idea of Sandra Arróniz. A few months later, in collaboration with choreographer Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, performer Sally E. Dean and musician Nick Parkin, they created the first version of ‘Pamplona, 7th of July 2008. Nagore’ The piece won the ‘Encuentros 2012. Artes Escénicas’ Prize in Pamplona - awarded and funded by Instituto Navarro de la Juventud.
For the next phase and creation of this piece, many artists from different disciplines are joining the performance: Julio Terrazas, Maddi Barber, Maeva Lamoliere, Irantzu Sánchez, Garazi San Martin, Maider Araguas, Leti Galeano, Luna Pérez Visairas, Noemí Irisarri, Seila Fernández Arconada, Carolina Rieckhof and volunteers.
This Project is supported by Instituto Navarro de la Juventud, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Huarte and Feminist Collectives as Andrea y Lunes Lilas, as well as Nagore’s family.

At this point in the project…

Due to the many financial difficulties in Spain at the moment, our application for grants and sponsorship from Government of Navarra (Departments of Culture, Youth, or Woman and Equality) and the Council of Pamplona (Department of Culture, and Equality), did not happen.  We need your support!
Although we have already raised 75% of the needed funds for this project, we need your help to raise the additional 25% - 2000 euros. As an alternative way of raising money, we have decided on launching a crowdfunding compaign.  In these challenging times, we find that small contributions, can benefit many people, making projects like ours, possible. Little gestures can change the world. As with our project - we are committed to bring awareness to the gender violence that is happening today - as well as to pay homage to the women who have been either victims or survivors of it.

What we'll spend the money on

75% of the money we have raised was from the prize we received last year. And the 2000 euros, that we still need, will be used for the following: performer fees, travel fees, publicity, materials and insurance - allowing us to run an event in a public space. We have many in-kind contributions already such video rental, video edition, rehearsal space and collaborator fees.  If we raise additional money beyond our 2000 euros, we will pay those whom have been willing to work for free, to make the project happen.

Your rewards

By being a patron or sponsor of this theatre piece - you will be major collaborator of this Project.  We have decided to run this funding campaign independently, not through an existing online crowdfunding service.  This is so that all money raised goes directly to the project (minus the percentage of online banking fees).  We have adopted the rewards ideas, from crowdfunding services, to encourage you to collaborate.

Every little counts and we really appreciate it. Each patron will be mentioned on the blog for this project:
and on the video credits. For those who donate 25 euros or more, we have additional benefits and rewards:
  •         From 25 euros onwards: you’ll have a photograph of the performance (15x20cms) unique and exclusive for patrons.
  •       From 50 euros onwards: photograph + picture –from a limited and numbered series- created exclusively for this project by Sandra Arróniz Lacunza.
  •           From 80 euros onwards: photograph + picture + 6 more pictures of the complete series -limited, numbered and created exclusively for this project by Sandra Arróniz Lacunza
